Everywhere we go as a family older people stop us & tell us stories of their children when they were our boys’ ages. It is so sweet & a good reminder of how important being a parent is. It is the one role that they look back fondly on & miss the responsibility of. Unlike any other job that they may have had during their lifetime.
There was a woman at the mall who told us that she has 5 boys all a year apart! She said that her baby is 50 now & will always be her baby. She told us stories of how trying it could be, but as she walked away she said, “I would do it all again.”
That really spoke to me. She had 5 boys very close together but would do it all again. Not some of it. All of it. The good days & the bad.
And I think we need to remember to live our lives in a way that we would readily do it all again. We don’t have to love & cherish every sleepless night. But you do it b/c the whole experience of parenthood carries meaning that doesn’t compare to anything else.
