Teaching a 3 year old is not rocket science. You are teaching the basic concepts of the world. You are teaching fundamentals in math, language, & behavior. You are teaching them about things that occur in every day life. So what better way to teach than to encourage them throughout the day as those MOMents occur?
Recently, Matteo got a new measuring tape toy; & he wanted to go around & measure things. I saw this as the perfect teaching opportunity!
We went around the house & measured all sorts of objects. He wrote down how long each object was & put that piece of paper on the object.
It was such a great learning moment, & one that he came up with on his own. It would have been far less successful & enjoyable if I had decided to set it up & make him do it in the name of “education.”
It is hard to take the extra time to take advantage of those opportunities when our child wants to learn from us, but it is oh-so-important.
