Can My Child Watch this Movie?
We stop at Redbox, pick up Big Hero 6, go home & watch it together as a family. Okay… the brothers are orphans. Well, that is a popular theme in kid movies (unfortunately), but (fortunately) it goes over my son’s head. The brothers are really close. We get attached to big brother. He is a father figure for little brother. It’s nice that he has someone. Wait, what?! Big brother dies in a fiery explosion?! Uh… nope… I’m not okay with this & certainly not okay with my son seeing this. Where is the disclaimer before watching this movie??
This experience led me to do some digging, & I ended up finding Common Sense Media. I wanted to share this resource with fellow parents, not because they are a sponsor, but b/c they are providing a great resource!
Common Sense Media provides reviews & age ratings that go much more in-depth than your typical ratings. For example, The Good Dinosaur is rated Ages 7+, which is an important distinction from a 4 year old watching it. They cover movies, shows, apps, and games in detail so that you know what you’re getting into before you show it to your child. There are parent reviews & site reviews & rating systems in place like this one about Toy Story…
If you are looking for something great to watch, you can also search by specific things like age & subject matter. You can also look through their great guides for different age ranges & interests.
